Check out the epic new music video below. Doesn't get any more hardcore for freedom than this. Eric July, (front man, awesome dude) texted me the link when it dropped and I shared it. There are now a lot of great acts whose primary theme is freedom or have subject matter that represent a correct view of government. (Jordan Page, Rebel Inc, Aimee Allen (now with The Interrupters) and way too many more to list of people I love and have met, so sorry if you're reading this and you're not on this short list!) I have seen a lot of attempts to incorporate music with other activism (music can be activism in itself) with varying degrees of success, but nothing much I'd want to replicate. So with this inspiring track, I'm starting this thread to open the conversation and maybe you can help me better understand the potential of music to be a part of the paradigm shift. Maybe I should just shut up and enjoy the music!

Getting together, going out, and screaming obscenities at people that disagree with you only goes so far as a way of life.

Our goal is to show people that we can be happier and more successful with freedom.  If all we do is sit around and complain, what kind of life is that?  Anarchy has a much greater appeal when it means dancing at an Interrupters show.  I also think it's important that we unite along lines of love and fun.  If our anger and disgust is what unites us, how do we maintain cohesion and community after we start to get our way?  Removing barriers to happiness is only part of the struggle of finding happiness.

I made a similar point to a friend of mine in Chicago who is very active in many political dissonance movements.  Her response was to plan the Radical Beach Party, a party on the beach for radicals.  Sometimes, sticking up for each other just means buying someone a beer.

I'm digging it!  Good sound, good message (from what I actually heard in the lyrics).   Thanks for the link.   Love to see the different ways people express their frustration with the system.  Sometimes the alternative media can get caught up in facts and trying to prove themselves right rather than truly connecting with one another in our shared circumstances.

I am an old punk so practically everyone I listen to sings messages like these. It's a great song! I like it and just found a new band to check out! People love music, if the words of freedom are in the lyrics they will be heard. Rage against the machine is a pretty good example of this.

Rage Against The Machine is the perfect example of lyrics that are up-front and to-the-point.

I would like to suggest a couple of songs by a band called "3." While the writer is lyrically more subtle, the songs have the potential to come off as less preachy. Not saying that we don't need in-your-face anthems - the BackWordz track Adam posted is right on the money!

3 - Dogs Of War https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwJclY-LKIU
3 - Soul To Sell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYa81nmuMKU

Sometimes the most effective songs, in message, are the ones that can be subtle and "fly under the radar," if you will. Really, it's a spectrum of forwardness.

I'd say a FREEDOM! playlist is in order. What else can we add in here?
Love is that which enables choice.
Love is always stronger than fear.
Always choose on the basis of love.

If you are into punk here are some from the early 90's through late 2000's
The entire Anti-Flag catalog comes to mind. (Police story, die for your government, police state in the USA; all stand out off the top of my head)
Propagandhi has some good tunes as well.

There's also plenty of Freedom minded bands in the Irish-punk and Irish-folk scenes.

Walkin thru the devils lair, breathin the devils air, drinkin his sweat, eatin his swine
They gonna try and take your soul, but they damn sure aint taken mine!

What did they do with the aborted baby fetus?
Did they use it to feed us?
Put it in the skin cream,  or was that a bad dream?

Its in how the schools have no windows and look like a prison,  and all the superficial egos wt no vision

Its in how I look at my phone in moments of insecurity,  regroup gather yourself and begin to think clearly,  checkin your phone relentlessly is spiritual suicide tremendously

Its in the debt based currency, sorcery, usery, witchcraft, something demonic by nature, something I have hate for!  Be an individual, the divinity of the god within for that be grateful.  Its funny all of these years I haven't seen any pyramids here except for the one in Las Vegas,  why did they put the Luxor on the dollar bill anyway?

Im with the voiceless and nature blue, up to me I'd play the screams of the innocent on 1600 Pennsylvania avenue, all the paralyzed children that woke up to bombs at dawn would get their screams played on the white house lawn
All the homeless, suicidal and refugees would take over the sellouts trillion dollar luxery,  but dont bring the kids, cause politicians, pope and media are pedophile pigs

Im with the mentally handicapped all the kids picked on at school, Im with the poor Latino kid they called wetback,  I'd die a thousand times to bring Malcolm X back!

Im with the kid they spit on and called sand nigger, I love to fight when outnumbered and they're bigger,  some say thats a bad proposition,  we defended that land from invasion, its in my genetic predisposition

The benchwarmers couldnt get back up, they stayed down, now they wear blue halloween costumes year round
The insecure ones need the power trip,  the egotistical shallow ones is why AmeriKKKa is sick

The way the phone, mainstream music, and TV dumbs em down, that I hate,  but I love those 4 kids at Kent State
The age of the sellout, none of em can save us,  but I love those kids at UC Davis.

Theres no serenity, the screams of the innocent echo to eternity
To save humanity its not too late, if the world can wake up to the message of abolishing the state.
