This is the single most important book you will ever read other than FREEDOM! It will redefine your relationship with yourself and everyone else in your life. I almost put this in the strategy section, because you really can't hope to convince someone else to embrace a different worldview without applying these concepts. You might already be using some of them subconsciously. This puts it all into an easy to use communications formula with wide applicability. I watched the seminar, then had to read the book, which I've read twice. Macey and I watched it together when we started dating and our relationship would not be possible without it. She's read the book twice too now. You're welcome.
Nonviolent Communication on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Nonviolent-Communication-Language-Life-Changing-Relationships/dp/189200528X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462068638&sr=8-1&keywords=nonviolent+communication+rosenberg)
Or you can watch one of the author's seminars on YouTube:
Nonviolent Communication - San Francisco Workshop - Marshall Rosenberg - CNVC.org (https://youtu.be/YwXH4hNfgPg)
The one time I got caught on camera using this technique directly in a confrontation, it got almost 300k views:
Would-be bully gets #KOKESHED (nonviolent communication in action) (https://youtu.be/fv9u6Eh8wHs)

I'll check it out. Thank you

This really clashes with how I spread the message of Freedom.
1)Invite someone to dinner.
2) Have shotgun pointed at them as they come through door.
3) Copy of Freedom on the table.
4) They have one hour to read it.
5) Short comprehension quiz.
6) Dinner time (provided they scored at least a 75%).

...JUST linked your 'would-be-bully' confrontation video in another thread, attributing your success to empathy. At least, that's the short answer to nonviolent communication. Can't wait to see what Rosenberg brings to light in this seminar. Thanks!

I watched about 30 minutes of the video yesterday, and I'll continue watching as I get the time.
Thanks for sharing. Rosenberg has an interesting take on life. I like it.

I finished watching the video, and I got the book yesterday. I'm sure I'll read the book off and on as I get the time, but the video already has me thinking on a different spectrum. It's easier to get people to watch a video so I'll try to share the video with people I know. If they choose to get the book, the more power to them.

Andrew - LOL! That approach is easy to explain. The opposite takes a bit more thought!

AndrewG - That took some thought and was funny as heck.

That's witty lol

This is the video that brought me here.
Thank you! I cannot say it enough.

I watched the video and am in the process of reading the book. My family and I started using this form of communication today. I saw my kids communicating with each other at a heart level instead of just bickering. I saw my wife light up as she received love from them and me.
Adam, I'm confused as to how the NAP and NVC can operate together, because the NAP is based on morality, and the NVC transcends morality. I fear that you may not see this entanglement, because I want you and the message of Freedom to thrive. Please articulate how you see the NAP and NVC can work hand in hand, or if they can't, then why not.

Bob-rob,
It appears you may have missed some things regarding NVC... He uses the word need just to refer to the metaphysical needs all humans have. We all recognize that humans have the same physical needs. Rosenberg simply expanded the term need to include the metaphysical which we also all have in common.
To say that you need $100 for medicine for your wife is confusing your stately/plan with your actual need. Remember that all humans have the same needs. Not all humans have a need for money to buy medicine for a spouse. But we do have the need for the health of our loved ones.
I actually love the use of the term need with NVC, because it helps us relate to other humans at a life promoting level. The idea of physical needs is to get needs fulfilled to sustain and promote life. The same is true with metaphysical needs.

I have a question would the abolishing of the federal government void the constitution? I have read Freedom, awesome by the way, and couldn't find an answer.
